WELCOME TO MORGAN GASCOIGNE'S PHOTOGRAPHY.

Journeying Through Nature

......

The nature of this page is to present the natural world through the eyes of a person who has the interests of her surroundings at heart. With the world so much at our disposal, one that relies so virulently on how it is treated by us as humans, shouldn't we treat something that is so vulnerable within our hands with care and compassion?

My Photographic Excursions

Hello there.

My name is Morgan Gascoigne. I am a university graduate, an alumnus of the University of Falmouth, Cornwall, UK. My studies were based on Marine and Natural History Photography, which was a BA (Bachelor of Arts) Honours course lasting three years.

My photographic history began when I took an HND (Higher National Diploma) college course in General Photography after taking Photography in my first year at Sixth Form (the latter years of secondary education). This led me on to looking for tertiary education that utilised the photographic skills I had developed at college. The scientific elements I encountered whilst studying the MNHP course have equipped me, for example, with grounded knowledge in the areas of conservation and the umbrella of basic flora and fauna biology.

I currently use a Nikon D7000 with a variety of lenses to capture the world around me. Some examples of the photographic techniques and subjects that I enjoy photographing are: textures; macro (and occasionally micro) photography; flora; fungi; and architecture when the chance arises. An assignment I am working on looks at the use of clouds and their unique formations. In order to gain a more accurate representation of what is naturally seen, I have experience in and can use the Adobe Editing programmes Lightroom and Photoshop to help boost the individual qualities of the images. On occasion, I will use these programmes to add an artistic twist to my images, but this will be stated within the description for the selected image.

I have been to a number of locations around the world (and would like to revisit!) such as Italy, France, Malta, Australia, New Zealand, and the USA. There are even more that I would love to, and am looking forward to, visit for the first time; for example - Morocco, India, and Central and Southern Africa to name but a handful of the wonders I crave to explore and record. Both instances would allow me to create opportunities for taking images with the acquired knowledge gained from university and I look forward to these future opportunities with anticipation.

My work so far has been published in the Western Daily Press (UK newspaper based in the South West region) and more recently exhibited in Saint-Jeanvrin, France.

More recently I have been indulging in going right back to the basics of photography, to relearn particular techniques such as panning for an action shot or focusing on some macro work. I thoroughly enjoy viewing the world as I see it, as I am able to immerse myself in this world of beauty and magnificence, away from the hustle-bustle of daily life.

Finally, I would love to thank you for taking the time to look through my ever-growing, ever-improving photographic work!

THE BOSS

Me, Myself, and I...

"Aside from photography, which plays a pretty large part in my life, I have a few hobbies that I find rather entertaining and fill my heart with such joy and happiness. The first is singing - I have regularly sung in choirs for around ±14 years now, although more recently (last 2-3 years) I have been unable to attend any locally due to the dissolving of my choir through unforeseen circumstances, and lack of time. I find music, however, plays a vital role in my everyday life and, although I have a very eclectic taste in music, very often I'll play either some classical or soothing music to accompany me whilst either editing images I have taken or with written work to get my creative juices moving - in fact even whilst I write this little piece about myself I am listening to my Spotify playlist De-Stressing Music and feeling very much at peace!

My second joy is planting flowers and plants, getting stuck in with the potting, repotting, or placing them in the front and back gardens, which again links to my enjoyment with capturing the natural world. The medium of photography allows me time to spend looking, admiring, and analysing what it is I am attempting to save as a physical memory or as an identification of the plant life that I love, and capturing the tiny details, or the vastness of a landscape full of the beauties of nature.

Last, but by no means, least, is my previous amateur junior and senior athletics career where I was, for a number of years, the Wiltshire Counties and South West Counties champion in both Long and Triple Jump. I competed a few times nationally in various stadia around London and in Birmingham, and internationally in Europe. Additionally, on two occasions I competed in the English Schools Wiltshire Athletics Team where I was given the captaincy of the girl's team in the second year. I have found the discipline and determination that I developed throughout this time in my life has stood me in very good stead in my photography, as this has given me patience and resilience to deal with difficult technical and location issues.

I love to travel and explore and, as I continuously evolve and update my website and skills, I will add more images of the spine-tingling locations I have had the privilege of capturing "on film"."
